1934 ford generator 6-12 volt Neg. ground conversion
 

Just a quick question about the conversion of the 1934 Ford generator 6-12 volt. I am looking for a source and part # for the correct field coils for that unit. My generator guy has converted others for me but not a 34. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This unit will be installed on my 34 truck that I have been working on for some time. I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel..sort of , if I get get this baby charging. Thanks in advance , have great day ... van

I bought a 56 generator and swaped housings including the coils. I retained the 40 endplate, I put on a 56 regulator and it works great.

Are you wanting to run it without a voltage regulator? I would at least get one of the electronic cutouts.

I will use a voltage reg. The fan is mounted to the pulley on a 34 so that has to be considered as well. The support there can't be compromised otherwise the fan may take a hike.. I know this has prob. been discuss severial times. I was hoping someone else has tackled this issue recently and might have the part #s of one that works and fits well. Thanks.. Hi there. The 12 volt field coils from an early ford falcon (1960) generator will work in your 1934 Ford generator. Replace the original 6 volt round cut out mounted on top of the 34 generator with a round electronic voltage regulator made by "FUN PROJECTS" which looks the same as an original cut out. This would have to be a 12volt negative ground unit which you will have to specify as they do make other variations. Don't bother using the three unit mechanical voltage regulator of a later model ford as they are prone to problems especially if second hand units. You can leave the third brush in the original generator but follow the instructions provided with the "FUN PROJECTS" regulator to the letter to adjust the third brush. Regards, Kevin.
