48-52 4 speed transmission Was the 4 speed spur gear (non-synchro) transmission used in the lighter trucks the same as that used in the 48-52 F5 and F6?

Re: 48-52 4 speed transmission looks the same to me-I have changed several out for syncro 3 speeds

Re: 48-52 4 speed transmission My 48 F2 and 52 F3 both had the non synchro T9 (crash box)
I swapped in a synchronized T98 from a 50 F6. It was original to the F6 I removed it from. |
Re: 48-52 4 speed transmission Case, shifter, and most of the guts, yes. Rear mounts are different for applications: there are short mounts with no hand brake, medium height mounts for no hand brake, medium height mounts with handbrake, and tall height mounts with handbrake. And the main shaft differs between underdash brake and band type brake (handbrake). So interchangeabilkity between f1 and f6 is possible, depending on how much of an appetite one has for swapping out piece parts.

Re: 48-52 4 speed transmission The depth of the trans crossmember dictates the height of the rear transmount. Also, all the 48 to 52 F1s had cable operated underdash ebrake; same ebrake setup also used 48-50 F2 and F3. 51 and 52 F2 and F3 swapped to the band style ebrake in use since 48 on the F4 through F6 trucks. F1 4 speed driveshaft is unique to F1 only. 48 to 50 F2 and F3 drive shafts are longer than the corresponding 51 and 52 drive shafts due to ebrake change. Hope this helps.

Re: 48-52 4 speed transmission The F1 had the T8 on the optional list but you don't see them all that much. Most F1 pickups had the light duty 3-speed dating back to 1942. The T8 was standard in the F2/F3. I'm pretty sure the T9 was the designation for the ones set up for PTO use otherwise the T8/9 are about the same unit. The T98 started to replace them in the Bonus Built years but they didn't completely replace them till the Hundred series came down the line.
