Water Pump Shaft Removal Ok, so I'm rebuilding a water pump. I've unscrewed the packing nut, and I am trying to remove the shaft from the housing. It won't budge. (There isn't that collar at the front of the shaft to prevent fore/aft play.) The shaft spins freely in the bearings. I have it in a press but I don't want to put too much pressure on it fearing I'll crack the housing. I kroiled and heated but it won't budge. What am I missing?

Re: Water Pump Shaft Removal Couple of pictures might help.

Re: Water Pump Shaft Removal Did you remove the front bearing? Some modern pumps have a locked bearing.

Re: Water Pump Shaft Removal I figured it out. Franklin hit it on the head. It had the sealed front bearing that's locked onto the shaft. The only way to remove that is to press it from the other direction- from the impeller end toward the front. I had to unpin the impeller, and pressed the shaft out from that end. Thanks.
