1955 Ford Disc Brake Conversion
 

Has anybody done a front disc brake conversion on the 55/56 Ford passenger car? Any recommends on the conversion kits that are out there? This would be going on an otherwise stock 272 V8 station wagon.
Thanks for any info to share from those that have done this upgrade.

All the little bird suppliers sell them, and they work on the passenger car. End of this post a very qualified member is doing something a little different using Wilwood. Near the end, but worth a look.

JeffB2......i pulled that web site up .....they mention that this kit moves the wheel out approx 1/2 inch on either side. I wonder if that would cause any fender clearance issues??? Any thoughts on that?

A half of an inch probably won't be an issue in some cases the 50's wheels do not clear the calipers an easy fix is to use the 15" wheels from a mid 80's to early 90's Crown Vic which has several advantages it is wider,has more positive offset which brings it into the wheel well for more clearance and they are disc brake friendly and the bolt pattern is the same also 15" Ford Ranger wheels will do the same. ;)

Sorry to pass this along but Dave is having health issues and has closed up shop,he has been a huge help to many with his advice on a lot of forums over the years. I hope you all will keep Dave in your thoughts and wish him the best.

Sorry to hear. Just bought an automatic steering column that he located for me as well as a speedometer lens. Very helpful. Called me several times with advice.

I used some odd kit on my '59, seems to have moved the wheels out possibly close to an inch. The Wilwood kits are nice, but close to $600. With all the aggravation with my kit, the $600 in hindsight is a bargain.

FWIW, the kits the bird guys sell typically clear stock 15” rims. I don’t think my wheels moved out more than 1/8”. It uses a Granada rotor, with the hub turned down to fit the small center hole on the oem wheel. So if you need to replace a rotor that needs to be done.

I cannot remember what year, but we used 2" dropped spindles and stock rotors from some T-Bird on my '56 Vickie. They clear the stock wheels.
