Early Y Block OHC 239 Spark Plugs
 

Did the early 239 Y Block have 18mm spark plugs, or, 14mm? Heard it both ways. I argue this once a week. Please, someone put this to bed. Thanks.

14mm. 1955 was the first year for the tapered seat 18mm. (If I'm remembering correctly)

The EBU 239 had 14 mm - the EBV 239 (most of these ended up in trucks in 55) had 18mm.

Of course, over the years people have changed out heads, blocks, and the whole gamut. I have disassembled several Y blocks that had mismatched heads.

My spare plugs out in the garage for my '54 EBU are Champion 844 H10C. Don't have the part # memorized, I just ask for plugs for my application. To verify what you've already been told, online specs and my measurements say 14mm thread diameter.

For whatever it's worth,
the '54 EBY / 256 engine I had used the metal gasket 14mm spark plugs also.

i remember seeing a 55 ford 292 with big plugs on one side and small ones on the other.ran nice.

FORD used CHAMPION from 1955 until they bought certain parts of AUTOLITE (but they won't), wanting mostly the SPARK PLUG DIVISION.
