What gloves are best for working on car

Just wondering what Brand of gloves (Latex, Nitrile, etc.) Fordbarners recommend for keeping hands clean when working on their engines, etc.
Thanks

DuPont used to have a product that you rubbed into your hands before starting to work or paint and washed off later. I don't see it anymore. I liked it better than gloves.

Harbor Freight has a nice selection of mechanic's gloves that are often on sale .
They are cheap enough that you can have 2 or 3 different types , for different situations . - F F

I use Microflex Safegrip latex gloves. A little more money than some latex gloves but they are 11 mil thick. I can reuse them if I want to because they hold up very well.

Hi Everyone. I use the Hardy 9 mil ones from Harbor Freight. They are sturdy enough to last all day most times. I can take them on and off without tearing. That offsets there being only 25 pairs are in a box. They will even hold up to parts washing in gasoline.

The ones we use at work are much thinner and nearly useless for durability. Thicker is better in my opinion in this case.

I break out a new pair of white cotton gloves every time I start a new project. Get them in 1/2 dozen pks for about a dollar a pair at the local hardware store.

I use cheap 5 mil gloves I got from one of those outlet stores, and when I forget to put them on I use D & L hand cleaner. Lol.

Do they make a glove material that allows the skin to breath? Pure rubber would be murder on your hands.

For me, calluses are the best gloves...

I use blue nitrile gloves. They last ok, sometines reusable, sometimes get torn. I prefer using gloves to having to was very dirty hands.

Mart.

Mart, do those gloves allow your hands to breath?

No, they can get sweaty after a while.

Except it is hard to get your fingernails clean

when I am working on a particularly greasy part I wear old leather driving gloves, or sometimes handle the filthy item with a paper towel. But really, the stuff is usually not that dirty, more fresh oil and rust rather than filthy grime.

Re: What gloves are best for working on car

I rarely wear gloves, except when handling harmful stuff. I dislike laboring to get them on/off and the sweaty hands with them on. When my hands get greasy/grimy I wash them in Dawn detergent using a medium stiff brush. Sometimes a little stiffer bristle for under the fingernails.

In the 40's professional mechanics did not have the dirtiest hands even without gloves.
It was the professional shoe shine guys. I remember those stands for professional shoes shines, what a living...and people complain today about their jobs., they don't know real crappy jobs.
