Canadian Open Car Colors
 

Does anyone know if there is any reference material on available 40-B Roadster colors that would be different than the colors offered on the US models? I find no reference in the Paint & Refinish Guide nor the Canadian Car section of the Standards as to either way.

Why I would even question if there was a difference is the available Red color on the Canadian Sport Roadster (40-A), and the vehicle I am working on is a bonafide Canadian-built '31 Deluxe Roadster. Thanks!!

Brent: This is my '29 Canadian roadster. Know it is Canadian because of all the Robertson fasteners in out of the way places. I know this is a 1978 Ford color so it is not original, but maybe the previous owner was trying to match what was on the car before he had it painted. For whatever it is worth. Regards, Bill

Brent, two things.

I am having trouble remembering his name, but there is a current JSC member of MARC from Canada that is a stout advocate, and just restored a car similar to the one you mentioned, but I believe it to be a -28-'29. If you have a contact among those guys, I know him to be very knowledgeable in that regard.

Just as a point of interest, I have a 1931 Canadian Std. Roadster. It has original Ford Maroon paint on the firewall. According to the Paint and Finish guide and other documents that I have seen, this color was only available on 1930 Deluxe Roadsters and even then was a special order color. It was also available on 1930 Deluxe Phaetons, 1931 Deluxe Coupes, 1931 Cabriolets, and a few others but not on the Std. Roadster

The paint colors available are listed in the 1931 Canadian Parts book. They are:
Dawn Grey
Black
Niagara Blue
Evergreen
Copra Drab
Rose Beige
Mist Grey
Richelieu Blue
Henna Red
Thorne Brown
Cigarette Cream
Scarab Green
Classic Blue
Some of these are clearly Canadian only colors. In my opinion some of these colors were carried for repair work on older models. In researching Revision 4, the two JSCs were unable to make a definitive statement as to which color appeared on which model or even the color combinations in 1931. Also, we have not found color samples (chips) of the Canadian unique colors. The Canadian experts, Everett Hessels and Carl Becker are continuing there search for these elusive items.

The new revision to the Guidelines reflects this information.

Contrary to previous statements, Revision 4 is not delayed at the printer. Rather. the printing process is following requirements set down in the contract between MARC and MAFCA. The Committee Chairman from each JSC must approve a digital proof of the entire revision. I expect this will happen next week. Once approved the printing presses will roll!

Hi guys here's a updated list of Canadian Colours. Something I've been working on with Everett Hessels. Two of the Colours I've found colour chips now I'm trying to verify them as original colours. (Carmine Red and Cameo Cream) Carmine red is a Dark Red Brown.
Evergreen
Pelican Grey
Mandalay Green
Richelieu Blue
Carmine Red*
Mount Vernon Green
Nankeen Brown
Henna Red (Everetts Sport Roadster)
Cameo Cream*
Mist Grey
Scarab Green
Classic Blue
Babbitt Metal

So there's the list. if anyone has any colour chips or ? let me know

Another great post / thread.

Colour was obviously important to Ford of Canada as the July '29 Service letter states " To stimulate sales we will change our colours more often and the present basis call for three standard colours, one of which will be changed approximately every three or four weeks. this will mean that each colour will be in use approximately nine to twelve weeks."

The March 1931 Service letter introducing the new SW Town Sedan stated it was available in a choice of 12 standard colours!
