Still sober

Seventeen years as of yesterday. This is NOT about me. I've been a member of the "Barn" since Shelly had it and I've taken an annual liberty to post my sobriety date because I care and want to inform and or remind guys, if you have a problem with alcohol, help and hope are a phone call away from your local directory. After we admit we have a problem and reach out for help it just keeps getting better, even though we probably wont see it as soon as the people closest to us will. I started every day with shakes and dry heaves and drank around a half a gallon a day. If we want to get sober, it's possible if we want it bad enough. I wish you all a productive and uneventful day, Craig.

My hat is off to both Craig and Ol' Ron. I'm sure your lives and the lives of the ones closest to you are much better for it.

Re: Still sober

Congratulations to Craig, ol Ron, and anyone else who has overcome an alcohol addiction, or any other type of addiction they may have had. I gave up smoking 45 years ago, and knowing what that was like, I can only imagine what it must have taken to give up an alcohol addiction. Some of us are probably still here today playing with these old Flathead Fords only because we were able to give up these unhealthy addictions.

Re: Still sober

Good for you guys. I to gave up smoking 40 years ago and it was not easy. I made my wife very happy and myself a lot healthier. What's sad is the states that think marijuana is so wonderful and have passed laws to make recreational marijuana legal. Those same states have had a war on tobacco. Go figure.

Re: Still sober

Congratulations on the victories! When I was a teenager, I smoked because I thought it made me look big?? Fortunately, I never inhaled and never got hooked. I am so thankful I have never had a smoking habit or a drinking habit. No drugs, either. I can only imagine how hard it must be to give it up.

Re: Still sober

35-years without cigarettes for me. I quit two other times before the 3rd and final time finally did it. Don't give up because you failed. Keep trying, you can do it.

Re: Still sober

Craig and Ol' Ron, I'm glad to see there are some people who have traded one addiction for another just like myself. Im at three plus years as well, and Ive rolled all the money I used to spend on booze into old Fords instead (currently at 8). Now I'm in the midst of restoring my first Flathead, which is a 1950 Country Squire. I never thought in a million years I'd have a flatty let alone a woody in the barn to boot!

I went to a Dr. years back & he ask if I smoked & I said yes but can't stand one before 10 am .He sez ,don't you suppose that your body is tryin to tell you something. I sure hurt & ache when I wrench on these piles of junk. I ain't listen ta my body tho.
