Body to Hood Alignment

4 Attachment(s)
I have installed new wood blocks with shims. The door alignment on both sides are very good but the hood is way off. Is the frame sagging or does the front body need more shims to correct the hood gap at the body? See photos.

Could be a couple of adjustments needed. Body does not seem to be square on the frame. Hood might need shims under the center shim rod in the rear of the hood. Brattons PN 22391. Bottom of radiator and radiator shell might have to go forward and square to frame. Hard to tell with the picture so close. Many frames sag a bit at the motor mounts.

it looks like the left frame rail is sagging at the rear motor mount. and either the front part of the frame is over to the left. or the body needs shifting over to the left. my guess the front part of the frame is over to the left. can you put the hand crank in it. normally if the front of the frame is over the crank hole will not line up with the motor.

Crank lines up with the motor. The rear hood bracket is not in place but I do not believe it will close the gap that much unless it is shimmed a lot.

The Les Andrews green book has the dimensions for the radiator shell to the cowl for all years. It's difficult to diagnose your issues without a complete side view or the splash aprons and fenders installed to see how much shimming is required. The cowl appears to be low with the shims at the firewall sitting on top of the splash aprons. The radiator can shift a little laterally at the front and rear and with the rods but probably not as much as your photos indicate. The hood latches won't close the gaps.

1930Deluxe,

Les Andrew's book Vol. 2 explains how to check and straighten the frame if it's bent and it also explains in great detail on how to align your hood.

Mine wouldn't line up for anything. I checked the frame as per the book and I found it
was bent 1/2" to the right and sagged at the rear engine mount's. ALL was resolved using those two chapter's in that book.

Bill
