Bullet connector crimping tool The bullet connectors on my 38 have four (opposing) crimps per below photo; the Lucas style crimping tool I have simply mashes the connector.
What is the correct tool to achieve the original style crimp ? Thank you |
Re: Bullet connector crimping tool I don't have a picture, have the tool, pliers with hole, as squeeze 4 pins crimp, has end cap to position connecter

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool There is a pliers type tool that you put the bullet connector
in, squeeze the handles and a bunch of little pins come in and squeeze the recessed part of the bullet. G.M. |
Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Or you could solder them to the wire(s).

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool i solder them much. better than a crimp

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool When I ordered my new wiring harness from http://www.riwire.com/ I also ordered some extra bullet connectors for circuits that I was adding.
Some suppliers only supply machined bullets that will not crimp but fracture and should only be soldered. Did a little massaging on one of my tools and it worked for me. The trick is not to over crimp. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictu...ictureid=43165 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictu...ictureid=43164 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictu...ictureid=43163 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictu...ictureid=43162 |
Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Interesting - I have an old Radio Shack crimper now begging for a date with the Dremel !

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Also, as an experiment, I’m going to borrow a Triumph / Norton hexagonal crimper and see how (if) this works on Dennis Carpenter brass bullet connectors

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool I soldered all mine - that's my vote very easy

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool CW Moss has the (hopefully softer) white metal bullet connectors in their Model A catalogue; the hard brass ones from Carpenter and RI Wiring both seem to be solder only propositions due to hardness. Will update once new tool arrives and will try on both “hard” and “soft” connectors

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Eureka ! The Bonneville Shop, which specializes in Brit bikes like Triumph and Norton, just delivered a ratcheting hexagonal bullet crimper capable of forming perfect crimps on both hardened and white metal bullet connectors. Between this and a dab of solder, the connections on my 38 should be good for another 80+ years

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Nice. That's a pricey little tool at $95 though.

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool It is, but you know how it can be with purpose-built tools

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool 1 Attachment(s)
Here's the crimper I have--- 4 pins crimp at same time

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool Spot on, and a great price

Re: Bullet connector crimping tool I have a bunch of Daniels crimpers for aircraft use that are 4-way. The large size is less common but they are out there.
