1931 Cabriolet Rumble Lid

I am getting the rumble lid ready for paint. I noticed that at the bottom edge there are no drain holes. Any water that would get in thru the handle would collect in the bottom of the lid. Would it be a good idea to drill (3) 1/4 in. holes along the bottom? Is there any downside to doing this? Ed

Wouldn't hurt I suppose; thru the years they have rusted out at the lower edge.
Theoretically, the only place water should get in is around the handle or wick thru the latch on the edge....possible. Make sure the weep holes are in an appropriate place to drain; probably closer to the bend in the inner liner??

Might spray some paint down in there if you can.
I'd probably do nothing!!!

I am also in the process of getting a rumble lid ready for paint.

I plan to get some Rust encapsulating paint down inside in this lower area.

Theoretically, there should be no water in this area but I would definitely do some preventative measures.

My opinion,
