Best way to insulate firewall
 

Good evening Barners,

Anyone have a suggestion on the best way to insulate or re insulate the firewall on a 56 Vicky that already has new carpet/pad installed?

This is the first summer I've owned this car (Bought it at the end of September last year), and driving the car when the temps are in the mid to upper 90's makes it almost unbearably hot inside the car.

The firewall pad looks good inside the car but man it's sure hot down around our feet so I am sure it's heat from the exhaust manifolds. And this is with all windows down and both vent windows open.

I had the same problem with a 57 Ranchwagon, found the heater door jambed open on the fire wall side. Got it configured properly and operating as it should and problem gone.

Buy a small roll of the silver bubble wrap insulation. Vacuum everything you can see on the inside of the fire wall, then wipe down every nook and cranny you can see that is bare metal. Pull the carpet and pad down as far as possible, then cut chunks of the silver stuff to fit all the way up to the top and down under the carpet pad. Fit it in first, then remove it and spray the back with 3M spray adhesive. Keep doing small pieces that are easy to handle with adhesive on it. After a while, it will get done, and yes, it does make a difference. I used this product under the entire carpet with the seat removed. Cover the whole bottom of the car inside.

The other reasonable option is Peel and Seal roofing material, at the Home Depot. A lot of guys over at the HAMB seem to like it. But it's heavier.

X2,I used it in my '54 even on the inner roof as I live in Phoenix it was 110 degrees today hold your hand on the roof and you'll be going to a burn unit inside barely warm. I did my '59 with a new pad I found on eBay. My heater box was out anyway. A definite improvement over the falling-apart-crap that was on there.

Dynamat or something similar should work. With the thin stuff, you may want to double it up.
