Mercury green and ford dark green
 

Does anyone have the formula for 52 Mercury engine green and 38 ford dark green. I don’t have a local supplier than I can get the proper engine paint from. I have a couple of transmissions and bellhousings I would like to get a coat of paint on.

I prefer Roy Nacewicz for the '38 green. He did his research well and it shows.

Don't know if '52-'53 Merc is the same as '49-'51 green but (VHT SP131 Ford green) is an exact match to the '49-'51.

Another vote for Roy Nacewicz, you can use the brush on and it flows out nice.

When I painted the engine in my 53' Merc (should be the same for the 52'), after rebuilding it, I discovered that the paint color on the thermostat housing (left side-original paint, right side Dupli-Color) was almost identical to Dupli-Color Engine enamel DE1618- Detroit Diesel Alpine Green.

Just an option.

The VHT is likely also a Dupli-Color product. Bill Hirsch company also carries the Lincoln/Mercury Green and the old Ford dark green in quarts and rattle cans but I'm not sure if the company will stay around since he died not long ago. Roy can be trusted to come up with good stuff in most cases.

I avoid stuff labeled as ceramic with the claim that it will bake on. My motors never ran hot enough for that to happen. The stuff never did come out right. As long as it it enamel, it will generally come out right but it takes time for straight enamels to dry. The acrylic enamels dry fast but not straight enamel. It has to be heated to force dry. When it's dry, it's good to go.
