Shoebox parking brake. See images.
Hopefully someone can help. Is my parking brake lever installed correctly. This is the passenger side pictured. The lever is to the rear of the car and the cable is entering from the front. My issue is it just seems as though when I pull the parking brake handle it would pull this lever and actually pull the shoe away from the drum. What am I missing? Or would I be driving with the parking brake handle in the dash pulled out? And letting the handle in would actually disengage the parking brake? I haven’t drive. This car before so I’m not sure the deal here. Also the position that the lever is in now it will actually not push against the shoe, it would push against the brake shoe pin. That seems weird to me. Pictures won’t load. I’ll put them in a separate post. |

Okay. I had to make them smaller. Thanks in advance.

Re: Shoebox parking brake. Ok..I’m an idiot. Disregard previous message. That parking brake link gets pushed into the forward facing shoe. Duh

Re: Shoebox parking brake. Rocket,
First, the parking brake handle is IN when driving, and pulling it OUT sets the parking brake. If your second photo was a bit higher up it would make describing this easier. The cables attach to a lever which can be seen low on your second pic. This lever acts on a cross piece up towards top of shoes. When the cable is pulled motion is transfered to this upper cross piece and SPREADS the shoes. Hope this helps. |
