The sixth of June is always "D day" in my memory. My dad missed it by a month but he got in on plenty of excitement in July when he went over. Lucky to make it back home. He died June 3 of 2002. He took training in Camp Shilo, Manitoba and learned to drive and grind gears on Ford and other army vehicles. Not sure if he ever got to drive this woody wagon.

Yes, hope our youth are being taught about the sacrifices made by so many of our heros like my dad. Luckily he came back. Capt. Company A, 3rd AD. However, as an ex school teacher, I am worried.

i worked with a guy that was in the envasion I was 16 and a stock boy at the local grand union super market bob was older early 30s this was 1958 ,he would tell us youngsters storys of the many battles he was in even before D day,god bless them guys for giving us the freedom we all now enjoy. rest in peace bob

I can remember D Day as a lad of 14 years of age. Largest invasion in history. It freed many nations and was the beginning of the end of WWII where America and its Allies fought so bravely to end Hitler's reign. God bless them all, and thanks to each and every one of them.

My dad built planes. Two of my uncles served in the Pacific. Another made it into the DDay invasion. They have all left now. Each one made a big mark during the rest of their lives.

I will be having a memorial service for a WWII vet the 27th of this month. Because of Covid the family had to lay their father to rest privately a couple months ago. This will be my third funeral for WWII vets, all three close friends. I feel very honored to do this last service for these incredible men. Funny, in thinking of the three men, one was in Europe, one Africa and the other Pacific.

The plate on my Mustang remembers. Also I visited Utah and Omaha beaches in October last year.

Not too far O/T as we wouldn’t be here today doing what we do with our old Fords if it wasn't for the bravery of the “Greatest Generation”.

Many youth have no idea, I was at a car show yesterday, I was saddened by how many people that did not know what day it was.

Thanks for the feedback Ralph. Sadly many adults don't know either. A few more years and it will all be forgotten, just like WWI and others.

Graeme/New Zealand, Thanks for the pics you posted. I have never been there but would like to go. We should never forget them. I guess it just does not rate as important with many of the younger generation. Regards Kevin.

Kevin if you ever get the chance Over-Lord Tours operating out of Bayeux are outstanding and only 120 Euro for a full day. I spent a month in UK visiting my daughter in London and thought while I was over there I would take the Eurostar to Paris and head up and do the US sector beaches. The day was the "shittiest" weather-wise of my trip but I still had a ball and it is a day I will never forget. Regards Graeme
