Windshield glass removal 39 coupe

Cracked windshield in my 39. PO set glass in with looks like black silicone. Do I break the glass and pull the glass pieces out? Or is there trick? I have the windshield out of the car.
Glass is safety type
Thanks Pete

Might try cutting the silicon with a razor blade to remove glass or take it to a glass shop.

You need to separate the two windshield halfs which is necessary . Then see if you can work the glass out.

If indeed the glass was set with silicone or urethane instead of setting tape; you may very well have to break the glass out and remove in pieces to avoid damaging the windshield frame.

Go over to Irontrap Garage on youtube. They have just put up installing glass in a 39 windshield.

I had a 36 and some one had put silicon gasket maker in the frame, I used a squirt bottle of gas to loosen it up to pull frame pieces off

I often use a heat gun to remove caulking and silicone. It may crack the glass unless you shield it with a piece of aluminum flashing or something like that

The small screws can be a nuisance sometimes if they break off while undoing them.
