Model A engine pans
 

Does anyone have a photo of what the pans look like installed?? I can’t figure out how they go in. I think the side with the tabs goes to the oil pan side. One of the pans has a U shaped cutout which side does that go on. Is it the steering wheel side? Does the larger end of the pan go towards the back of the car and do the pans go in either the curve up or the curve down? Thanks for any info.

Dave, the u shaped cutout is for the exhaust pipe. the side with three holes bolts to the frame. The two tabs go to the oil pan. Uses two of the oil pan bolts to attach. Curved down, larger end to rear.

In the picture below, left side passenger side of car, right side drivers side. (assuming you have a right hand drive car.

according to Les Andrews book two dust pan tabs are under two of the oil pan bolts and the other side is fastened to the frame with 3 1/4-28x1/2 hex head bolts,curviture would face down and u shaped hole would wind up under carb.sorry no pic.

Forgot to mention, I tapped the 6 holes in the frame rails for 5/16"-18 bolts for easier install from underneath.

For some reason, I didn’t take care of it 10 years ago when I had the motor out, but this time, I had to relieve the pan flange at the oil pump bulge and a couple other spots, too.

The tabs that bolt to the engine pan will want to break off due to vibration and flexing. When they do, they will let out a howl during de-acceleration. Best to make up some support brackets when installing.

Yes, I know I have a radiator leak. ;-) My replacement radiator arrived a few weeks ago, but I haven’t had a chance to swap it out yet.

Large ends go toward the rear of the car.

The flat ends go at the front of engine Curved ones go toward rear. This is the way they were on my 1931 4 door sedan.

Shew01 … I would get rid of that paper air filter on your carb, swap it out for the steel screening type. Eliminate the fire hazard.
