I'm new to Model A's, need help.
 

I just bought a big truck load of Model A parts and I'm trying to sort them out. I would like to build a couple of speedsters. Is there a website that lists casting numbers? Looks like I have a lot of reading to do on this site.
I have been racing vintage inline engines, and the 4 bangers look like fun.
If I am in the wrong place, let me know gently.

There is a MAFCA club in Maine called the Pine Tree A's
Yes do a lot of reading and asking questions here on this site. It's a great source of info.

There will be people wherever you are to look at stuff and ID it.The Pine Tree chapter is about 7 hours from the other end of the state,if we knew where you are somebody would chime in near you.You could be 15 miles from me or 400 miles from me.

The number on one transmission looks like 1230330-1.
The other is looks like 213697-3.

I'm in Orland, about half way up the coast. I go to Epping at least once a year. I went to the Hotrod Reunion last year,and try to get to the many swap meets in the area.

If I remember correctly that message can also come when you pictures are too large. What is the size of the picture you are trying to upload? If you don't know you might try taking pictures with the camera set on the lowest resolution and see if they will post. Several types of photo software will let you reduce the size of existing photos. What photo software are you using and what operating system (Windows, MAC?).

If I remember right you are about a couple hundred miles from me.That puts you roughly 150 miles from the Pine Tree chapter.Or,at least the guys I know of in it.I used to row a truck all over Maine,and Orland comes to mind as 12? 20? miles due south of Bangor.We are having a lot of swap meets around here,but it is almost all street rod stuff.The only A stuff I am seeing is what rodders have taken off their cars,and none of it seems to be fairly priced,never mind a bargain.Amherst will be re-opening next Sunday,but after gabbing with a couple dozen guys at a show today it sounds like they are starting off on the wrong foot.They doubled the fee to get in,and EVERY guy I talked to today says they won't be going.After paying $5.per car to park,for the last 30 years or more,it's really rubbing people the wrong way to set the price at $10.Even though it's a bargain because you only pay parking,not per person fees,it just ticked people off.There was a rumor about per person fees,but it seems to be just that,a rumor.

The easiest way to ID a lot of parts is to lay them out with a number under each part, then post that picture. We can then list the number and name of the part.

The nice thing about building a Model A speedster is the sound of the engine. That alone is what got me into Model A's years ago.

OK here are the 2 transmissions. I found a website with engine casting numbers but no trannys.

Welcome Marcia if those are Ford trannys they V-8 transmissions (32-33?). If you go to the first page up at the top there is a sticky that has about 15 pages of different websites. Scroll down and there is a research section with a site by Steve Plucker and Vince Falter that will have lots of pics and numbers for you.

Also, since you are into speedsters you may want to check out the H.A.M.B. as they are more into the speed side of things. But don't scared off we will answer them as well but we are more stock people.

There was a sandblaster guy who was considering messing around with a boatload pile of Model A parts there. Is this the same pile of parts? Or the same guy?

1230330 seems to be in the range of 1930's Buick transmissions according to my
Hollander interchange although it didn't list that exact number.

Yes, once I got the gunk cleaned off I found the Buick emblem. Still haven't identified them but thank you for your help.
