Door lock mechanism drawings on a slant window

This is a follow up on an earlier thread. The outside right side handle on my Slant Window will not turn. I have used the correct locking handler, a back door handle, even a screw driver. But the striker moves in no more than an 1/8 th of an inch. With the inside handle I get full travel of the striker. The locking handle works fine off the car with the key so that's not the problem. There has to be some problem in the door mechanism. I was told someone on the forum has a drawing of this locking mechanism. I sure don't want to take the door panel off on a freshly painted and upholstered car. Can anyone help.
Thank
John

You just might have to remove the door panel from the door to get to the root of the problem unless you have X-ray Vision:D.

Are the moving parts well lubed?

Yes, Tom it was using white grease spray the best I could with the panel on. And it worked OK before I took the handle off several months ago. lately I've been going through the back door in order to reach the front door handle. I'm not sure when the front outside handle stopped working.

Re: Door lock mechanism drawings on a slant window

I need to go look at my parts.

I am pretty sure there is a square stationary blocking part (right side only). This prevents you from taking the handle off and using a screw driver. On a locking handle there will be a round area on the square to clear this blocker.

My guess is the there is a distance issue preventing the round area from ending up inside the blocker square.

Is it a repro handle? Do you have the gasket under the handle? There should be a thin gasket or I believe more of a paint protector that goes under the handle bezel.

Thanks Kevin and everyone for your help. Kevin was correct, the handle was not going in all the way. The mounting plate was upside down hitting the door keeping the handle out just a little. It has to go in all the way in to work.
Again THANKS EVERY ONE. I'll sleep better to night.
