federal use tax on motor vehicle

I was just going through my parents papers from years ago and came across a "Federal use tax on motor vehicle 1942" it said to keep in vehicle. Where on the vehicle would these be placed. Just thought someone here would know. Thanks

sounds about like this. Found 3 of these for my truck. seems like it just has to be carried in the vehicle incase they are asked to see it. i dont think it has to be displayed unlike fuel ration cards.

grrr will have to upload somewhere else later.....i hope photo bucket looses all its clients

Well here in California they use road tax to build bike trails and "high" speed trains to nowhere. Then they want to raise gas tax .43 cents a gallon and car tax $100. Then they blame the electric cars for having to raise the taxes.

During WWII there was a Federal tax on motor vehicles which as I recall was $5 per year, and you were issued a decal like a postage stamp but a bit larger, to place on your windshield. If you registered your car during the Federal fiscal year the fee was apportioned. My Dad's car had a vertical row of about 4 decals on the extreme left side of the windshield.

Today the gas ration stickers are reproduced but I have never seen a repro of the Federal tax stamp decal.

BarnStuff, Post # 4: "I have never seen a repro of the Federal tax stamp decal."
---------------------

Not to worry BarnStuff - while not being a "repro", I am sure in the near future you will see a real, bonafide CURRENT "Federal Tax Stamp" on your windshield - only this time it will be a $100 yearly "Fee", or "Assessment", or "Surcharge" - but certainly NOT a tax !
Beware of the government adage: "I am from the Federal Government, and I am here to help you."

..... and as Doug indicates, once they open that door and get their foot in it...... look out.

Did you know that telephone taxes were initiated in 1898, to pay for the Spanish American War? Did THAT ever go away? The 'war' only lasted 100 days. It was paid off a LONG long time ago:mad:

All of us Model A and old car people need to stick together to make sure that our cars don't get legislated into our garages.

That is one reason I fled CA in 1978 to Texas
