How to remove graffiti

I bought a '31 coupe from an old farmer and for some reason he let his grandkids write "farmer" on the body above the rear window. It looks like chalk but it doesn't wipe off. So I'm thinking it must be some kind of paint pen or marker?

Any ideas on how to get this off without hurting the original paint? I was thinking about getting some "Goof Off" but didn't know if that would remove the original paint too.

Thanks.

Re: How to remove graffiti

Try some acetone SPARINGLY! I had some overspray on mine and tested an inconspicuous spot, and it did what I wanted it to. Try it in a hiddn spot FIRST!! JMO

A friend of mine had his pickup sprayed on halloween, took it to a body shop and they used very fine rubbing compound, rubbing lightly with good results.
good luck pal, allen :D

Clay bar might work, hopefully no prep work was done prior to graffiti.

Re: How to remove graffiti

Spray it with EASY OFF OVEN CLEANER and let is set for about 20 min. and spray it with a hose, the graffiti will wash off and then just polish it. It will not hurt the body paint. This how we remove truck lettering before selling trucks.

I never gave WD-40 a thought. Have you had success with that? There's been a lot of great suggestions so far and once I decide which method to try I'll let everyone know what worked and what didn't.

Thanks!

Re: How to remove graffiti

I think 31 Flamingo has the right method (easiest) we use to use Acetone to remove the white sprayed on numbers from the bumpers of Military vehicles when Number change was needed. May have left a Dull surface but it worked well. just put some on a rag and wiped it off.

I've used EASY OFF oven cleaner (yellow label) to remove unwanted pinstriping on my '40 Ford. I WOULD NOT leave it on there for 20 minutes. I used a damp (with water) "Q-Tip" that I dipped in some Easy Off that I sprayed in a small cap. Dabbed it on the pinstriping...one swipe. Wait FIVE minutes and wipe off with wet rag...gone! Leaves a little dull. Polishes back to normal. TRY INCONSPICUOUS SPOT FIRST!!! DD

Just wanted to let you all know that I had great success in removing the graffiti on my '31 coupe today. I used Acetone, recommended by 1931 Flamingo and kp, and it worked great! I put a little bit on a rag and gently rubbed the graffiti away.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.

I used WD 40 after Halloween and it worked great. If was suggested by the body shop along with clay bar.

Your time machine seems to be stuck on 2010...you might want to consider some stock trading, so when you get back to 2014 you can have enough money to buy you another Model A.:D

I already have 6 A's and don't need more but thanks for the suggestion. When I hooked onto Fordbarn this morning I guess I was out of sync !

Re: How to remove graffiti

My .02Cents I've always had good luck with the hardware store bought paint thinner. I was a contractor and used to commandeer the customers garage . One night the customer had parked on the street with her late model Jaguar. Well the next morning when we came to work someone spray painted her car on all sides it was a mess. I felt somewhat responsible being she couldn't use her garage or driveway. I got out the paint thinner and rags and started to remove the spray paint and within a 1/2 HR. or so you never knew it. Had no effect on the cars paint. True Story.

Use Easy Off Oven cleaner. We used it to remove lettering on two truck doors, and it worked perfectly. Just rinsed it off and polished the doors. Did it on saw horses-removed the doors.

Yah, but what kind of paint. This is probably laquer, so it could react differently.???
