Light switch fix

I have been through all o9f the books on my shelf and cannot find any information on disassembly and repair of the light switch. Any help out there is appreciated. Mine works fine for everything except the tail lights, no power on the line when they should be lit. Jack

Re: Light switch fix

Do you have Stop Light when you step on your brake pedal ? If not , your tail is not grounded.

The tail lights have their own "section" of the switch. Ensure you have good contact in this area or it is not cocked. Hope this helps.

Re: Light switch fix

If you are talking about the switch on the end of the steering box, there is a wire bail that holds he switch on the box. Move that to the side, grab the round housing and twist and pull. the lower part (where the wires enter) should come loose. You will see the brass contacts in the round black plastic disc. Chances are the steering box has leaked and covered it with 600W Clean all the parts. In the diagram above, check for continuity in the tail light portion.

Y-Blockhead; Can you tell me where you found that schematic of the wiring for the light switch? Jack

It is actually part of a larger wiring diagram that I scanned only the switch part to post here. It is similar to this one.

This is the one I scanned. I have it hanging on my wall. I got it from Snyder's https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/wiring-diagrams-2930

As Slammin stated, your steering box may be leaking into the light switch. This new steering box end https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/s...sing-end-plate does a great job of stopping the oil from leaking (common problem).

Thanks for all of the help. Everything works fine now, just a oiley switch. Now its snyders turn to help with their oil tube to keep the oil out of the switch. Jack

I have never seen oil/600 lube cause an open or short. Sometimes just looking and moving things changes things.

I agree, oil won't interfere with current flow. I would look for a weak or jammed spring holding the rotary contact plate against the wiring connector. Bathe it in solvent or shoot it with WD-40 to clear the gunk and check for free travel. It should press against the connector with pretty good force. If it feels mushy you need to replace the connector housing.

Not sure I would make a blanket statement like that. Not all oils readily conduct electricity.
