Rear main tube?

Is there a way to confirm the rear main tube is in place, without dropping the pan?

I had one break off. I know this because I found the tube in the bottom of the oil pan when it was down and apart for other reasons.

I think if your rear main gasketing/cork is all in place and tight you probably would never know either.

Maybe? You might be able to insert a bore scope camera thru the drain plug hole then carefully maneuver it towards the rear main bearing area. You can buy these small bore scope cameras for smart phones on EBay for under $10.00.

I agree, the scope camera is the only way that you will be able to look for the tube.

The pan has baffles that would make it harder to see
Does it leak--?

Yes, I have a big time leak. After a 20 mile drive, it drips what looks like 3/4 of a cup. I put the engine together, but honestly don't remember what I did or didn't do regarding the tube. Prior to building this truck, all my experience was with flathead 8s. Only learned of the importance of the rear main tube and oil leaking was after finishing the entire drivetrain.

Trying to remember, is the tube visible under the pan tray or do you need to see above the tray? I would think a scope would be more maneuverable below the tray from the drain plug.

Pull the oil fill tube and run the scope in there. Don't have to lay on your back under the car nor drain the oil. Plus it is a bigger hole to work thru. Don't forget, there are the baffles that stick down so you would have to work under them from the bottom. Ok so I read the whole thing and missed Kirt in NJ's post of about the same thing Re the baffles.
