The T-Bird was in a rain storm yesterday

The wipers work super. I was surprise on how well they worked. Don't need electric wipers. MMO did the trick.

Glad they worked for you Old Redneck. Where exactly did you apply the Marvel Mystery Oil? I used the wipers on my early 60's Mercury last week, and wasn't impressed with the performance. It was the very last of the vacuum wiper cars. I think MMO might help me. I need new blades, too.

I have no idea what the prior owner did to the vacuum wipers in my 55 sedan, but the only time they didn't work was in fifth gear at full throttle at over 6000 feet in the rockies. And the 312 had an Iskenderian cam, the highest vacuum was 11 inches!.

In the service manual for mye 1952 Mercury, it states that once a year I should lube the wiper motor:
1: disconnect vacuum hose and put ut in a container with motor oil.
2: turn the wiper switch fully on.
3: manually drag the wiper until it ALMOST reaches the point where it will return
4: manually return wiper to start position.

This will make the wiper motor suck oil into itself and soften the leather seal around the piston.

I disconnect the hose at the wiper motor. I squart a few drops of mmo in and use just 5 pounds of air pressure then works the wipers by hand several times. Then install the vacuum hose start the motor and watch the wipers. Should spray water on the windshield. I have done this on several of my early fords that work very well. Make sure the air pressure is no more then 5 pounds. MMO is Marvel Mystery Oil. Some use brake fluid, I was afraid to.

Ken, are those power lines going over your house?

Hate to admit I'm becoming a little neglectful in old age, but I haven't lubed my vacuum wiper motor in at least 20 years, but it still works like new and gets plenty of use. Hadn't done a complete grease job either in about 3 years. That's bad. shame on me.

That's good. Sometimes cameras don't show the true setting.

The red on your Bird looks like the 55 or 57 red, not the Fiesta Red (reddish orange or orangish/red) of a 56 ??

The Paint is 1980 Ford ZF Bright Red Color Number 98p-5330 Tec Base Martin Senior. The top was white when I got the car. I change it to Red. I like the car the way it is. This winter I am going to repaint the whole car.

Thanks very much for the instructions runewilliam_merc and Old Redneck. I'll try that on my '61 Mercury. My problem is that I never intentionally drive it in the rain, so the vacuum wipers get a little ignored. Probably the only part of the car that does ;). I'll replace the blades while I'm at it.
