BAE prefix?
 

Guys, I have a number of NOS bumper irons that have a BAE prefix. Anyone know what year(s), model(s) these are for?

Appears to be early 50s, I think BA prefix is '52.

Interesting topic ...

This is conjecture as I never became interested in pre-1954 FORD and never got involved with the early number system(s).

If BA is the prefix 1952 (and I have no doubt), then E may identify the PN as an engineering PN, to be converted into a SERVICE PN.

What period FORD are you involved with? You say bumper irons, are you describing bumper mounting brackets? Can you post the complete PN?

BA goes through 1959.


B = 1950s
A = Full size
E = I'm not sure

I"m pretty sure that BAE is an engineering number.


The Ford part#s always have a number in the second placeholder signifying the year.


EX.= B7 would be a 1957


Since there is no number in the BAE part inquiry it stands to reason that its an engineering assignment.


If any additional information can be added perhaps the rest of the code could be broken.


But as of now just the BAE is not enough information to decode.
The Master Cross Reference books are not easily read from the engineering numbers to the Ford part numbers.


A quick glance thru several of my MCR books did not produce the BAE code.


Tell us if anything else is on the brackets.

All common rules fall off when you put Lincoln and Mercurys into the equation. This BAE would be 1957 Mercury Mercurys also used more than one prefix ( i.e. BAE & FEK would be 57, and BV and FDK would be 56)

No. This Prefix (BA) is in a period before the system you are describing (B9A).

Re early Ford (1932-1948) part # prefixes I thought:

Cars= A

Commercials (1/-2 Ton) = C

Trucks = T

The prefix shows the year first made and continues to be used

on parts made in years after until replaced by a new (changed) part.
