How to find mechanic
 

Hi Guys, I know this a little of the wall but I can use some help with a problem..
I am 80 years old and I need some help how I can locate a mechanic that can work on my 35 Ford mechanical brakes. I call and ask around and they just give you a funny look, enough said. I just physically can no longer do it. Still love to drive it but don’t dare till they are working correctly. Any suggestions?

Check with a classic car club, possibly the early v-8 club in your state. I sent you a private message.

V8 makes a good point.
Location matters. Is there an antique auto club near you?
Bet someone there could assist you.

Your cars' brakes are not much different than most drum brake systems other than the way the force is supplied. Try to find a brake shop that doesn't just replace parts, maybe a good truck shop or a shop that has been in business many years. If all that fails, find an auto restoration shop. Do you belong to any clubs that might have members that can help you?

Another good reason to join the Early Ford V-8 Club. The roster is worth it's weight in gold in contacting other V-8 owners in you area for advice.

Probably the best way to find a mechanic is to add your general location to your post. With a few phone calls I might be able to locate a good mechanic. Not knowing where, in general, you live makes it a waste of my time to look since you are probably too far away to make the information useful. WHERE IN GENERAL DO YOU LIVE???

Tell us where you are. If you are close someone might come by and help. It's a pain but not to hard. No modern mechanic will want to mess with it. Maybe a small shop.


I can't find a guy that wants to paint a fender or part. They just want to do the whole car. Ya no thanks. I'll do it myself then.

I tried to figure out how to get my town under my user name this week but can’t figure it out.
I even emailed the management but haven’t heard back yet.
I’d love to help the man get his brakes squared away. I first did brakes on my ‘33 and 46 back in 1953. My Dad’s ‘51 in 52. Just did a model A last fall.
I’m 83 but I can still work ok. Just a little harder to get up after I kneel done.
Well actually a lot harder.
Let’s all do what we can to get our home listed.

Hey AARON: WE can figure-out this "town or city" thing under your user name. So, here goes!


Locate the solid BLACK BAND at top of ANY page.


At far left of band, click on "User CP".


At the very top of the column that drops down, click on "Edit Your Details".


Scroll down to the third window marked "Additional Information".


You'll see a window called "Where You Live". FILL IT IN!


At the very bottom, click on "SAVE CHANGES".


Done deal! DD

Mechanical brakes never leak and go bad from sitting...who can´t like them :)
Had one car come in with a real worn setup early this spring and owner was told everything was worn out and beyond repair...change to hydraulics...bla bla
Digging into the bottom drawer out came the small round boxes of mechanical brake "cheaters"...a set of oversize rollers and shims later the car was back on the road...a real back in the days fix...but it worked !

I still don't know if you are a V-8 Club member or not. If you are a member use the roster and there are many club members in the greater Cleveland area you can call to get some advice. I don't like posting names and phone numbers on a public forum unless it's a business or have the person's permission.
