Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

What are the original heads in a 1935 ford car. I have seen both aluminum and cast iron. Which one is correct or are either acceptable according ACAA judging.
Thanks for your help.

According to the 1935-1936 book, they were aluminum. But I've been told that they were prone to corrosion and warping, so a cast iron head was designated as a service replacement later on.

1935 Ford passenger cars were produced with aluminum heads. I can't say for AACA judging, but the absence of aluminum heads on a car in a Early Ford V8 Club national meet concourse would result in a 8-10 point deduction.

Re: Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

Does anyone know what deduction in points would occur if you used cast iron heads instead of aluminum heads? Ford realized that aluminum heads tended to warp and rust and replaced them with cast iron heads. Some were replaced in 1935.

I meant ACAA judging relative to point deductions.

That would be AACA.

You might want to buy the Early Ford V-8 club of America's excellent 1935-1936 Ford Book.

The AACA judges primarily on the quality of restoration and much less on the authenticity.
That's precisely why I'd never placed much stock in a AACA "winner". The car will most likely be very pretty but there's also a very good chance the same car will be quite a distance from correct.

Thanks for all your comments. As a result you have answered my question. The 35 heads originally were aluminum. Apparently problems did arise as mentioned in the emails and Ford suggested that their dealers replace them with cast iron heads which were less troublesome.

Re: Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

That Ford would make that suggestion is utter nonsense,

I find no evidence, Ford aluminum heads had any inherent problems.

I always thought the cast iron heads were for the trucks, but I have never owned a 35 or 6.

Exactly, they were originally released for use on engines destined for big truck chassis.

1935 passenger cars and pickup/panel deliveries had aluminum heads while big trucks had cast iron. In 1936 pickups and panel deliveries changed to cast iron heads while passenger car@ retained the aluminum heads

What type of cylinder heads did the 1933 and 1934 half ton pickups originally have- cast iron or aluminum?

Re: Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

'33-'34 commercial V8 vehicles had aluminum cylinder heads.

Re: Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

After further communication with several people familiar with Aluminum heads in about the 1933-36 years many reported problems. As a result they were replaced with cast iron heads. My 1935 ford coupe has cast iron heads with numbers 68-6049 B and 68-6050 B. Can anyone tell me if the heads in my car fit the flat top or domed top pistons.

Re: Original 1935 ford heads aluminum or cast iron

68-prefix heads were a late '36 model year release and like 48-prefix heads, they were for use with domed-top pistons.
