32 B4 rear seal missing

1 Attachment(s)
We sent our bare 32 B4 block in for crack examination and dip stripping to an engine restoration shop . the guy forgot to remove the aluminium seal thing (what is the correct name) So where do we start looking for the now dissolved part?
The block was not the best as it had been previously sleeved , and the deck surface was somewhat pitted . We plan to do an OHV conversion . But these blocks are getting harder to find . Better would be nicer. Was told on initial inspection it was crack free.

For a good reproduction of the original: Snyder's has them in their offerings: Rear main oil seal B-6335

Another option that I most often use on a B block is the Small Block Chevy (SBC) rear seal modification. Dan McEachern, from California, makes a SBC seal holder that is machined with the block to accurately align it. If you plan to up the oil pressure to the mains, this system will help eliminate leaks. I have used about 8 of the kits in the past 12 years. Order the kit before you send your crankshaft out for grinding as the instructions included with the kit provide the details for the crankshaft grinder.

Some folks don't think about the babbitt when tanking an A or B block. If it's going to be repoured then it's not an issue but if a person thought it serviceable then they get a surprise expense. The oil pans with a dip stick boss on V8s have to find a new boss.
