Water pump to motor mounts For a 1950 V8 Ford what is the trick getting the water pump aligned to the bolt holes of the motor mounts. I had replaced the water pumps.
Thanks in advance |
Re: Water pump to motor mounts I sure hope some one can post a photo of the water pump installed correctly so that we could see exactly how the fit up looks.

Re: Water pump to motor mounts I tried youtube but nothing.

Re: Water pump to motor mounts Bill, That may depend on how you have lifted the engine to do the job. The normal way to do it is with a short length of 2x8 on a jack supporting the front of the oil pan. If this is how you did it, perhaps the jack has shifted position? It really should line right up with the mounts.

Re: Water pump to motor mounts Thats the way I lifted the engine. But the bolt holes on the water pump is about 1/2 inches more forward than the motor mounts.

Re: Water pump to motor mounts Are we talking car here ?
The lower bolts on the rubber mount slides in the frame if i remember right... And the rear gearbox mount can move a bit to... |
Re: Water pump to motor mounts Yes. Its a 1950 Fod ragtop. If I can move the engine since I did not use a cherry picker how would I move the engine. I installed the engine several years ago and I had a problem aligining the fornt mounts. But do not remember what I did. (Very old age and short memory)

Re: Water pump to motor mounts Loosen the lower nuts on the mounts then you should be able to wiggle them a bit to get the bolts into the waterpumps.
A mild amount of force too move the engine where you want it is your friend here.... |
Re: Water pump to motor mounts Is there anyway you could use a long drift punch or pin to slide thru one of the holes of the the mount and pump and lever the engine and mount into alignment so that you could "catch" one of the mounting bolts?
Wish we had a photo. Is this what the rubber mount looks like? If so, is it possible to loosen or remove the bolts that hold the motor mount bracket to the frame so that the rubber piece can be loosely attached to the pump and THEN the frame bracket be put back in place? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1949-...yABEgKJi_D_BwE Another option might be to loosen the rear motor/transmission mount so that the front of the engine could be tilted downward enough to eliminate that 1/2 inch difference on the front mount attachment points? Wish someone could post a photo of what the front motor mount set up looks like with pump installed. |
Re: Water pump to motor mounts There were motor mounts that the holes were not drilled right!!
|
Re: Water pump to motor mounts 19Fordy, I believe the mounting surface on the water pump is at an angle parallel to the crossmember. The crossmember goes down, under the engine and back up the other side. The mount bolts between the pumps and the frame member. I have no idea what the angle is, but something like 45 deg.
|
Re: Water pump to motor mounts You canīt bolt them to the waterpump first...since at an angle geometry donīt let them slide into the holes in the frame...
Have to be loosely mounted in frame then bolted to waterpumps. |
