I bought this 1948 Ford Convertible out of California in 2015. It came with a Nevada title from 2006 and now has a NYS registration in my name.
Overall, it is a solid car that runs, drives, and looks presentable from a distance. Its been driven less than 200 miles since 2006. It was black from the factory. . The red color change, top, tires, and upholstery look to be from an early amateur partial restoration ….. maybe from the 1960’s or 70’s. Close up they are showing their age. Under the old paint the body has amateur patches and fiberglass in the lower quarters, inner rockers, door sills and cowl dog legs. The exterior body work has held up fairly well but some of the underneath areas, sills, rockers, and lower door jams need redone or replaced. The lower areas and bottoms of the doors have flaking paint but no known repairs. The floors are original and solid. There is a 6” x 14” patch in the trunk floor near the spare tire. The top has been mended on both sail panels. The lift cylinders and pump are also missing. I haven't tried, but I was told the top can be raised and lowered easily manually. This spring the fuel pump diaphragm, coil, plugs, and distributor cap were replaced. The engine is original to the car. It starts easily, runs smooth, but does smoke some. Some of smoke could be attributed to the marvel mystery oil that I add to the gas and oil. The radiator is nice and runs cool with no visible repairs. The engine and dash wiring harness are are mostly original and secure. The chassis wiring shows several repairs and should be replaced. Most of the electrical components do work but the spot light, fog lamps, and radio are not hooked up. The gas gauge and horn are but don’t work. The wiper blades and arms are new and the wiper motor was cleaned and lubed recently and works well. The tires hold air well and look good but are old. The tire age along with extended shackles give a rough ride. NOS shackles are included. The brakes have a good pedal but pull to the left at higher speeds. The car has been driven on short test drives but is not ready for the road yet. Overall, it’s a solid, sound, and drivable old car that needs sorting and minor repairs to be a local driver. It is not a show or restored car. PM,s or emails work best for me. [email protected] $13500 |

Additional pictures.
The inner panel pictures were taken while I had the interior panels off. They were reinstalled shortly after the pictures were taken. Reasonable offers will be considered. |

Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration $13500. I'd like to make some room in the garage before winter so serious offers will be considered.

Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration If your not looking for a $35K show car and this one fits your needs, make me an offer.
I could really use the garage space. |
Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration Price lowered to $13500.
Anyone seriously interested in this car, make me a offer. You might be surprised. |
Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration If you're not looking for 35K show car this would be an easy winter project.
Starts, runs, and drives now. Finish up some light electrical, mechanical, and cosmetic work over the winter and have next spring's local driver. |
Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration Interested?
Stop by, look it over, and make an offer. I don't think you'll be disappointed. |
Re: 1948 Ford Convertible older amateur restoration I am adding this due to a potential buyer on another site thinking he would drive the car home cross country.
I have given a long description and many pictures of the convertible to help those that may be interested. From my own buying experiences, I highly recommend that anyone seriously interested should look online cars over in person or thru an appraiser before buying. I am selling the car "as is" with no guarantees because it is 73 years old with unknown history. I'm sorry to add this, but I will not renegotiate the selling price or give refunds after the full payment is made. PM work best for me. Thanks for your interest. |
