Color of steering column and wheel on 55 Ford When did Ford paint the steering column to match the interior color of the dash as opposed to basic black? Would a 55 Customline 2 door wagon , 59B , have the column and wheel matching the color of the dash?

Re: Color of steering column and wheel on 55 Ford Steve, every one of the four 57 Fords I have/had had black columns and wheels. The interiors were Red/white, red/black and two were gray.

Re: Color of steering column and wheel on 55 Ford All '55 Ford Fairlane models had steering column and wheel painted to match the interior color EXCEPT some had white and there may have been a few black, but only if car exterior was black or two-tone black and white.
All Customline and Mainline models had black steering column and wheel. The Fairlane steering column and wheel were exactly the same parts. The Mainline column and wheel had a smaller hub in the center and the wheel only had a horn button, rather than a deluxe horn ring. There were two horn rings available for Fairlane and Customline series cars. They looked the same except for the power steering ring had a recess with the letters stamped into it "Master Guide Power Steering". The black paint that was used was a high-gloss black enamel, baked-on for hardness and durability. |
