Rumble lid adjustment problem.
 

I have just about solved the spacing problem at the back edge of the rumble lid by putting the curve back in the lower back panel. Now the problem is that the upper lip of the rumble lid is too close for the rumble latch to engage the striker plate. The latch will catch on the lip of the panel, but that is not a final solution. Is there any way to adjust the gap at this point, or should I flatten out the striker plate a bit or make another one that doesn't stick out past the lip of the upper panel?

From your photo the upper panel needs more curve . the wood piece needs to match the curve in panel and deck lid . I have a 29 standard Coupe so the rear window panel bolts to the curved panel no wood . This Deck lid is just laying there also this is a trunk lid .

Here's another photo where your latch would be . Maybe you can trace the curve from your rumble lid onto the wood and a bandsaw or wood rasp to shape ?

how did you create the curve on the lower back panel?

This is the upper panel I used to mock up the body the top of the panel has a nice arch . The bottom edge is flat and rain gutter mounting flange is bent under . Both top and bottom edges should have a like curve I hope this helps .

If I understand your question the lower panel has a outward curve I found original upper and lower panel that had the proper curve that matches the bottom of the lid .

Thanks for the photos. I'm beginning to think my problem may be the repro panels. The odd thing is, the rumble lid fit ok before I tore everything down to the frame ten years ago. Maybe something shrank in this desert heat vs. the years in Alaska! :D

I'm sure the repo panels are a major part of the problem . I was lucky my neighbor had part of rusty coupe he let me swap panels with . So he still has his rusty yard art .

Slide your rumble hinges back..if you open up the mount holes in the rumble bracket some you can 'tune' the decklid,use lock nuts when the bracket is set.

Thanks for that thought. I will try that, although I am guessing that it might make the clearance back by the lower panel more of a problem. Right now, I don't have the bolts tightened at all.....just fiddling with everything. Too hot to do it this afternoon...it's 95 degrees out right now in blazing sun.

Couldn't work yesterday got to be 105 here,it takes some trial and error to get the lid where you want it,fore and aft,side to side and up and down..I made my own hinge brackets,drilled them oversize
