Pine pitch on windshield

Any good way to remove it ?

Re: Pine pitch on windshield

I have used a razor blade with good results. Let the spot dry and carefully scrape it off with the blade. I haven't found any solvent or cleaner that will dissolve the pine pitch. Hope this helps.

"goof off" soaked in a rag works good, still can be hard to get off

Ford makes an excellent Tar and Bug remover. Doesn't hurt paint and cuts thru most things like road tar, pine pitch, etc... Most dealers stock it or can get it from their Motorcraft wholesaler.

Acetone works very well. Use caution close to paint.

Gasoline used to work. I don't know about this stuff we have now.

Rubbing alcohol will loosen it up on glass.

Regular mineral spirits thinner or Naptha. Neither will hurt the paint.

Re: Pine pitch on windshield

Use a single edge razor blade, mark it some way so the same side is always up,(it will scratch the glass if you turn it over), use some windex or similar product or a soapy water solution, keep the razor at a very low angle, and scrape away. This process will
also work with paint over spray. The secrete is to never turn the blade over.

Marvin, thanks for the tip on the razor blade. I've been using them for years and years on windshields and can't see that I've ever scratched one, but I will watch out more closely in the future. I always used both sides, and used a very low angle of approach.

Wile visiting Yellow Stone NP on my cross country tour in the 34 we stayed at motel with a big pine tree witch i parked under. In the morning the 34 had blobs of pine tar all over, soap will not work. But Gin works great! :)

Try lacquer thinner. Be careful.

Re: Pine pitch on windshield

WD-40 takes the pitch off. Soap and water takes the WD-40 off.

Actually, regular turpentine is the same stuff as pine pitch and should dissolve it easily!! And I don't think it will hurt paint!

Re: Pine pitch on windshield

We get dripping pitch from the pine trees here in the NY State. Paint thinner or turpentine on a soft cloth works great. Paint thinner is made to contain more oil residue than turp, but both wash off with soap and water. Just rub gently and patiently. Will not hurt paint. Also a good rubber cleaner - follow with a coat of glycerin to restore rubber's resiliency and water repealency.

Some cars manufactured in the early 1900's often recommended these products, combined with bee's wax, for polishing cars.
