Found what I believe to be a very early AR Ok guys, back in 2011 I had just bought a barn fresh '30 tudor over in eastern Montana. I've since sold that car. Anyway, right after I purchased it a friend showed me another model a tudor sitting out in a field. Car had been outside for a LONG time, and I was content with what I had. Flash forward to 6 months ago and I decided to call the owner and strike a deal on it. Still there! Upon further investigation I noticed the left hand e-brake in some old pictures I had of it. I got curious. When I pulled the car back to Idaho I noticed that the engine number was 3180; making this a December of 27 car. I recently found an old article dating this as one of the earliest ones known to exist. My plans for it was to yank the banger and trans and build an AV8. Now I'm not sure I can do that. I have no idea if being this early of a car if it adds any value? Or is this just another model a that I can dump a v8 in. Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR I think you found a rather rare car. Depending on the body condition and if the engine is rebuildable, there are model A people that like to restore very early cars as painful as it is, due to the hard to find early parts needed for the restoration. Since the car was up off the ground, the body should have minimal rust damage verses a body setting in the dirt/mud. Rather than make a hotrod out of it, I think you could sell it to someone that would appreciate the early nature of the car and buy a normal model A to make into a hotrod. Just my thoughts.

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR I'd restore it back to Original since it's so early.

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Motor is a restamp for sure. Can not see any features in your pic's that make me think it is early. Nice find though. Rod

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR That Motor # is a RE-STAMP..
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR How do you know it's a restamp?
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR It's nice that you rescued the car from a slow death. Sure hope you restore it because there are already too may rods finished and unfinished. You don't see many original cars anymore at car shows.

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR The car is definitely early. Not a doubt in my mind re-stamp or not
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR The number stamped on the engine is a re-stamp, suggesting the engine has been changed. A original stamping would have *A3180*. .Is the very early light switch still in place , no bail ? The horn rod top should have a stamping " dim-Off-On" ? The Speedometer would have a wide Bezel ? It also appears to have a 28-29 Hood ?

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Well a history buff, I'd love to see this car restored....clearly done for the love of the car
and not as an investment. |
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Working on it
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Def restamp in wrong font, applier had a shaky hand on the 3 and 1 and isn't that 8 upside down ?
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Assuming the engine was restamped, wouldn't the goal of restamping be to match the new engine with the registration number already assign to the car. So could it be an AR model A with a replacement engine?
|
Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR On a 28, is there also a stamp on the frame? I don't know but someone here on the Barn does know. If it does have a stamp, by removing body you can prove the car number and it's age.

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR Hi did they stamp the chassis ? If so could you locate it ? I would love to see it be a very early 28.

Re: Found what I believe to be a very early AR I have an early 28 rpu. I can't see any early features in your photos.
