12 volt heater motor for '54 Ranch Wagon

Converting my '54 Ranch Wagon to 12 volts. Is the 12 volt motor from a '56 a direct bolt in? Thanks.

My avatar is 12v. I am running the original 6v heater motor and have had no no problems the 5 years I have had the car. The motor nor the wires get hot.

Good to know and I'm sure it gets used more in Oregon than it will in SoCal.

One thing to keep in mind if you do in fact go with a 6 volt blower motor and buy it new to replace the original: I rewired my '54 Ranch Wagon last year (6 volt) and, as far as I can tell, replacement 6 volt blower motors are not available in the original dual (2) speed configuration. They only come in single speed. The good news is the single speed blows strong enough to keep my car warm in cold weather, and I live in Nebraska.

But check, because someone may have started making two speed motors since I rewired my car.

If you can find a '56 heater blower motor that still works, yes it is an exact match, but two main problems with the old motors: the insulation of the wiring may have fallen off inside the motor housing, and the shaft bushings may be badly worn.
Don't use a '57 or later motor. They rotate in the wrong direction.
I have one of those repro single speed motors in my '55 Courier wagon, 12-volts, all car wiring was new. The rpm of the motor is low and it can take quite some time to start getting comfortable. I would almost give my left pinky to have a good 2-speed motor again. Still using the original 6-volt, 2-speed in my '55 Fairlane. It is awesome.

if you have anything left in your piggy bank at this time of year.the people that were based in Lockport NY at one time before selling to a corvette based company list one (2 speed)but shipping will almost double the price.
