1934 Deluxe 3 Window

I know many on this site are interested in car values and how the prices for the old cars we love seem to be going down. I saw this 1934 3 Window sell on Mecum Monterrey on TV last night for $69,000. Looks like a pretty original car other than the dual exhaust, and in very good restored condition. Is this more or less than you would expect?

A '34 three window in that condition is top dollar. Seems about right. That is why I drive a '41 business coupe; almost as pretty but half the price for the same condition.

The buyer's premium (commission) would put the total in the mid 70s.

Mecum is 8%. I saw the car in person, and have restored, owned many. It was a very nice one. The hammer price is what I would expect for a pier to pier sale. This being said, definitely about 10k lower than even from early 2018.

Note the 34 Cab that was in the same auction was in much finer detailed condition and hammered for 49k. Again, a huge price drop that I do not see ever coming back up.

And the seller gets 8% less than the hammer price, NEVER buy or sell in an auction.

The Buyer pays 8% on top of the hammer price? Wow!

Re: 1934 Deluxe 3 Window

And the seller is deducted 8% from the hammer price.

Wow, what a beautiful car sold for a very reasonable, under value price.

This one is for sale in New Zealand on our local equivalent of Ebay
I think the current rate of exchange puts the asking price at $US 128,000
Must be really good !

Here is a picture of the 1933 Ford Deluxe Three Window Coupe for sale in New Zealand for NZ$200,000. Wow. Sure makes the Mecum Auctions 1934 For an absolute bargain.

Is there a market down under for a car like that at that price?

Re: 1934 Deluxe 3 Window

Here are my observations, as I track this stuff all the time. First, is there is a huge difference between the asking price and the actual transaction price. You can ask all you want, but if you want to actually sell the car, you have to work with the buyer. If a seller does not adjust to this market, and asks a price from even two years ago, his car will sit for sale until the next ice age. There are way less people around that have the bug like we do.

All of the EFV8’s are way down in price. The ones that have taken the least hit are still the 32-34 Three Windows.

32’s that are mildly hot rodded are at the top of the heap.

33’s next. However: last month there was a 7/10 condition car on EBay. Opening bid was 50k. Not one bid, and the auction ended. I called the seller, he wanted 68k, or threatened he was gonna chop it and put a Chevy 350 in it...I asked if the 50k opening bid would buy it and he said no. I got the impression he did not get a lot of interest.

This one from NZ: that equals $127k in US dollars. So that makes it an Ice Age Car. And I think it is Right Hand Drive? If so, only about a dozen people in the US would have an interest.

34’s: the 3W’s like the Mecum car that are totally done, clean and accessorized, AND are black sell the strongest. Córdoba Grey (tan) and green cars are much harder to sell

1940 Woody in the same auction hammered for 74k. About 4 years ago they were over 100k.

So, in other words Mecum got $11,040 for selling that car.

Looks like Mr. Mecum is a very good businessman.
His auctions are top of the line and a great experience to attend.
Don't forget to also add on the seller's entry fee, which varies, depending on which day of the auction the car goes across the "block".
Read through this to see how it really works from a fellow who's bought Mecum auction vehicles. Very interesting.

There is a % to the buyer and seller. More like 20% of the total. I'd guess the seller got $14k less than the buyer paid all in. So seller got $62k and buyer paid $76k.

A Saturday auction slot is $1k+ extra so your car doesn't go over the block on Thursday night when no one is there.

IMHO Mecum is the beer and pretzel auction, Barrett Jackson is more like champagne and caviar, no reserves under $150k.

I don't believe so ! The RHD is attractive ( for us ) However if i was desperate for such a car I would buy LHD in the States and import it . Shipping would set me back US$1500 and I would have to pay duty and sales tax on the total including shipping which would equate to about 15% . Hence I would land it for less than US$90000. I suspect this is probably the market value here . I have all the bits in my shed to convert it to RHD if I was bothered to do this.

Like Digger says I suspect the seller is dreaming . However it is true he is dreaming more than he was a year or so ago -as EV8 prices have dropped back here as well - Karl
