1935 Luggage Rack

I was comparing this Luggage Rack to the 35-36 Ford Book and did not find any info here on the Barn yet.
If anyone has one I am interested in comparing notes and getting a look at the brackets.

The rack is 38” wide at the bottom pivot hole, 38 7/16” OAW. The holes are
4 3/4” center to center.
How do these dimensions compare to the 4-bar rack?

The knobs and bars appear to be correct. The arms mount to the rear bumper brace bolt and have been remade from another application.
They are not correct.

More photos of the luggage rack.

This looks nothing like any 35-36 Rack I have seen... I have a couple NOS ones I can take photos of later this week.

Perhaps Don Rogers can weigh in here. When I was searching for a rack, he (as usual) had the correct information. Don??? Are ya "out there"?

Glad you posted that info from the Early Ford V-8 clubs 35-36 book. I never noticed that photo or statement in the book until now. All of the racks I have ever owned which has been around 25 or so, did/do not have the full continuous length stainless strips. This has just went above my minor knowledge, and hopefully don Rogers will chime in as to whether he has encountered a rack like yours in person before.

This is an interesting subject and I may disappoint with my lack of knowledge on the subject. I have never personally seen a 5 bar rack but they did exist if even for a short time. I came across a photo of one a while back and have seen them pictured in very early Ford literature. I have been unable to discover any drawings or information about them in The Benson Ford Archives. Tim's photos of his rack confuses the issue even further because his rack has strap loops along the perimeter of the rack. These loops do not exist on the images that I have. I will keep digging and post any additional information that I might find.

Additional. notes:
The trim pieces are a heavy gauge steel, and were chrome plated.
The casted brass loops are not plated, all are evenly and accurately space.
No provision for a trim piece on top.
It was painted black over brown primer.
The knobs pictured in the B&W picture above and on the brochure look similar.

Don,

How about that center bumper guard and none in the usual two places nor bolts as well?

Dave G, Apparently Ford considered the idea of a single middle of the bumper attachment early in the 35 model development. Here is a factory prototype photo of an early version of a panel delivery. Notice the middle of the bumper oval bolt.

Interesting stuff here on the "bumper" portion of this post, to "add" to the variation from the norm is the "Euro" bumpers which "some" did not have the "rabbited" grooves in the bumper (actually starting in 33/34). See attached.
