Have you tried Simple Green? To get the color back in the rubber I use Meguiar's Natural Shine.

Soap & water scrubbing brush let dry. Now brush in black Kiwi shoe polish very liberally. Thy kind in the flat can. Let it soak in & dry then polish off with a soft brush & rags.

I use Simple Green.......scrub brush, rinse with lots of water, then let air dry......looks natural after drying....

Hmmmm, this sounds like a scene from the movie, "World's Fastest Indian", about another Kiwi, Burt Munro. Burt supposedly used shoe polish to get his old tires past the tech inspectors. I really enjoyed that movie.

Should be a lot safer to use on running boards.

Too funny yes he was a character. I met him many years ago & in 2 days will be in his hometown & see his Indian & Velocette once again. Will be there for the 10th annual Burt Munro Challenge motorcycle, racing& rally.
I have used Kiwi shoe polish for 47 years on my original 36 running boards. Nothing better in my books.

Ditto on the shoe polish. gives nice luster and doesn't collect dirt.
