28 tranny with multi-disc clutch Can an early 28 transmission with multi-disc clutch be converted to be used with the more common clutch disk & pressure plate? Would it involve a lot of modifications? Thanks for any help.

Re: 28 tranny with multi-disc clutch If you have a copy of the service bulletins there is a whole list including part numbers

Re: 28 tranny with multi-disc clutch I did that swap on an October 28 Tudor 30 years ago.
1. Replace multiple disc flywheel and clutch with the later single disc unit. Easy parts to find. 2.Replace your early bellhousing and transmission with the later unit. Also easy stuff to find. Your clutch pedal will work with the later bellhousing. 3. What's wrong with your multiple disc clutch? |
Re: 28 tranny with multi-disc clutch The clutch is on a spare (barn find) transmission & is rusted up real bad with worn teeth. Have no plans to use the trans but just to keep as trading material.

Many attempt to "upscale" items they have for trading purpose - but the act of "upscaling" for many buyers opens the specter of the unknown - and unknown usually decreases overall value. I'd rather buy something "barn fresh" which hasn't been gone over by the owner, as barn fresh implies set aside for a reason - and most of the reasons are 1950 reasons. And not necessarily being sold for a reason. Joe K |

Re: 28 tranny with multi-disc clutch Can it be said that the early 28 transmission with the multi-disc clutch be left as a unique unit with its bell housing & flywheel as Henry built it. No point in trying to modify it.
