Engine tear down
 

Engine being disassembled and ran into this problem. The center bearing cap bolts with nuts removed can't get the bolt out. The one near the water inlet. Other bolt is removed no problem. Need help...Thanks.

The only thing which might hold up this bolt would be rust. There may be a crack in the block which has allowed water to get into this area, but this is rare and you can deal with this as a possibility AFTER you get the bolt removed. More likely water dripped from a less than perfect lower water connection.

Looking at this area on my own stripped down block it is apparent that blocks of hardwood could be cut to allow use as a "fulcrum" to "pry" against the water jacket and push the bolt down.

Another methodology involves a "rod nut" threaded the 7/16 fine and a bolt matched for length which can be used either as a bolt extension (reducing the size of fulcrum required) or even by unscrewing against a stop as a "pusher" itself.

Actually, an impact wrench with a square drive could probably "spin" the bolt in place and get things moving.

I have "small spreader jaws" in my porta-power kit (a Harbor Freight special) that could do pretty well with this - but you want to be careful not to pein over the top threaded portion of the bolt which will really make removal difficult.

An easy fix.

Main Bolts, on T's, A's, and B, Fords always get a lip on the block, where the main bolt nut tightens. This lip will stick in the main bolts threads, and hamper bolt removal.

Take a vice grip, and snap it on the square end of the bolt, and screw the bolt out. Then, take a 1/2 " drill bit, and run it through the main bolt holes, and get rid of another irritating problem.

We have done this with all the engines, we have built. Don't beat on anything.
