How do you test a magneto coil ring? I've got a newly re-done magneto coil ring, ready to install on my 1919 Ford Model T touring engine.
I also have my poorly performing old magneto coil ring. Both are on my bench now; what is the test to determine if a magneto coil ring is functioning properly? This test should be one that my new coil ring passes, and my cruddy coil ring fails. Anybody? (Note: all magnets, magnet clamps, starter ring gear, flywheel, all of this is in good working order/and or new. |
Re: How do you test a magneto coil ring? Test to make sure the coils are isolated from the frame and no breaks between the coils. An ohmmeter works for this.

Re: How do you test a magneto coil ring? Quick test with a battery charger - connect the red lead to the solder button, the black lead ground to coil frame, energize then place a short piece of flat bar or a bolt on two coils at a time - it should be magnetic - flip-flop the metal piece to check all coils - if any don't attract, there's a short.
