what is voltage at coil on both pos and neg sides on 6 volt not running and running len

6 volts on both sides with the points open, Ign. Switch On or OFF. O volts on Postive side with points closed and Ign. Switch ON. 6 volts always on NEG. side of coil.

Tom answered this question on your earlier post. The only real difference between 6v and 12v systems is that a resistor is needed on 12v systems to reduce the voltage to the points..

With the engine running, the voltage on the coil primary terminal that leads to the points will depend on the dwell. The more the dwell (the time the points are closed) the lower the voltage. If the points are closed half the time (45* dwell on a 4 cylinder car) then the voltage should be about 3 volts on a 6 volt system. This is theory and I've never measured it. There are inductive forces in the primary windings that may change this voltage reading.
