exhaust gasket 3 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I have the gasket in the photos below. Which one is the best?? I assume the silver goes towards the engine? and the paper side towards caberator? The gasket is not the same on both sides... Thtanks!! |
Re: exhaust gasket I have had two sets of paper gaskets, the green ones, blow out. I have had the best luck with the second one. I believe that the side shown in the third figure goes towards the block, but check with the supplier.
The gaskets take a set like a head gasket and must be re torqued cold after the initial run and then after 100 miles and 500 miles. I torque mine to 50 foot-pounds but others have said that this is too much. The surfaces of the manifolds must be in the same plane when bolted together. If not, machine the surfaces. The conical washers must be used with the concave side towards the block. |
Re: exhaust gasket 1 Attachment(s)
I have always had the best results with the copper gaskets.

Re: exhaust gasket 1 Attachment(s)
I have been told Remflex gaskets work good with uneven manifolds or headers but I have never tried them.

Re: exhaust gasket Yes, they cost twice as much, but the only one i use are the ones posted by blockhead. Copper on both sides. The extra cost is worth it. The CHEAP green one blow out.

Re: exhaust gasket I have a set of the gray looking gaskets very much like asbestos coating on a metal inside, not the paper ones Never seen these before. They are two individuals like the copper set pic above. Are they any good?

Re: exhaust gasket I have tried the green ones but the two sets I used blew out after a few hundred miles. I will not use them again.
