Flathead oil pressure change
 

So over winter I redid my gauges powder coat,clean up,new bezels,paint and switch out various gauges for better looking,checked full sweep,all good! Now My oil pressure has dropped tremendous from 30lbs to about 15lbs in 10 mile drive! Do I have a gauge problem,oil sender problem or motor problem,I was thinking going to auto parts store for a mechanical gauge and mount it under the hood for my 10 mile ride to see what I get .what pipe thread is that? Am I going the right direction?

A mechanical gauge is really the only way to know what is going on.

the oil pressure taps are 1/4 NPT

Oil thins when it gets warm. So the drop is not unusual. It should also increase some with rpms. Weight of oil can effect the pressure also.

Always good to check it with another mechanical type gauge. So yes, right direction in my thinking.

Did you replace oil gauge with a different one? Might be your problem.

best thing to do is install a master gauge ,then you know what you have ,then diagnose from there ,keep us up to date

2 x JSeery's recommendation to use a mechanical gauge.

I think Ol'Ron would say 15 lbs hot is okay at idle. At Idle, my mechanical gauge starts at about 65 lbs cold and when hot reads abt 20 lbs. I use 10w-30.
