power valve question

I was at the local O'Reilly parts store this afternoon, and noticed that they have Holley power valves in stock there. do these same power valves fit the holley 94 carbs? they looked the same. maybe the are, and maybe the gasket is wrong. does anyone here have any experience with the power valves sold by O'Rielly's? sure would be convenient for me to be able to purchase them locally, if they will work----Jim

Re: power valve question

If you have a CarQuest auto store in your area they have or can get power valves that will work in your Holley 94 without any modification, I've read that the Holley power valves will work, however you'll have to make some modifications to install it. I just got a FM728G which is a 5.5. It comes with a gasket. I did a search on this forum for "power valves" and found this info..

Re: power valve question

Every one I got at a parts store was for a 4-BBL, and while it would screw into the 94, it leaked. Daytona Parts or (shudder) Charllie Price have the proper power valves.

I was told a couple of days ago that Carquest has been sold and that they are going to liquidate all their Carquest marked and numbered parts so your Carquest part number may not work. Don't remember who bought them. Hope the new guys treat me as well as the Carquest guys did.

Some don't care to do business with Mr. Price and have reported bad experiences with their orders. I, for one, have high praise for his company. Every one of the orders i have placed (about 10) have been handled promptly and the parts were as advertised. He has many parts that are very unique, and therefore, hard to find. Please post the results of your success (or failure) of your order. Best of luck.,...jack

Re: power valve question

I have also purchased from Mr Price, and have no complaints at all. Power valves often come with a little shoulder, and that needs to be machined off, so getting them from people like vintage speed means you get the right part.

Re: power valve question

None available in any store in the state of Alaska, according to the guy at carquest yesterday. I told him not to bother ordering it. I would have to pay more in freight than the part. I will be placing an order with Daytona carburetor tomorrow. will end up buying a few kits, an assortment of power valves and a few leather accelerator pumps, if they have them. If not I will be on the hunt for them. waiting for a few more local events to pass before I start playing with the tri-power. I want to be able to drive the car, the driving season is short here, especially with no heater.----Jim

With the variety of dubious parts floating around, I really recommend one of these to be sure of what you install in your carb. It is a one-time expense that will give you peace of mind when troubleshooting.

These are for guys that have more confidence in the power of $$ paid for gimmicks than they trust in their own ability to learn the basics.

I agree. I have one. It allows me to test new power valves so i can see if they work at their rated vacuum. It lets me test unmarked or used power valves so they can be evaluated for my uses. It identifies leaky power valves. Without it, you are just guessing.,...jack

Edit: If your engine has only a single carb, and you are starting off with a pretty good carb. that is in good shape, and you have good luck, you probably don't need this device. Just slap a kit in it and be happy. These things really shine when unexplained problems, and/or multiple carbs come into play.

Yeh, I will get one on order. You know you can borrow it anytime.https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif At least we will know if they will hold vacume & where they open/close. At this time all I can do is "suck" on the one end and see if they move. You still don't know if they are moving at the # that is marked on them. Bill
