Hurd key blanks I have some Hurd key blanks I have had for over 20 years. Cannot remember where I got 'em Any way to tell if they're OEM or a repos? Have they even been repopped?
What are they worth. Ebay shows them at $25.00 +-, saying NOS. Thanks |
Re: Hurd key blanks Originals would be brass nickle plated, not steel chrome plated.

Re: Hurd key blanks Thanks my man. Hope you are on the fast mend track after your surgery. One of these days I hope to get the flash drive back to you so you can download the book on it for me. I'll be glad to pay you for a flash drive if you will download the book and the "Pictures for or used in the book" instead of my misc pictures you sent me on the flash drive I have. Lawson

Re: Hurd key blanks I have about 8 ORIGINAL Hurd key blanks. What do they reasonably go for. eBay asking. $25.00. That seems a little much. I guess it depends somewhat on the year model. Any input appreciated.

Re: Hurd key blanks Just a few thoughts that may help.
In my experience many folks really don't care if the locks work or not. Their cars are usually not out of their sight for very long so security is not a major concern. Ignition is a no brainer however, but door, trunk then glove box in that order of importance. If the car has a tire lock then that jumps up in importance for obvious reasons. In a nutshell ….if a guy wants working locks the key itself doesn't matter. Some folks ask for the "correct key" ( which I usually don't have) but they don't want to pay much for it. If I see original blanks for sale I only buy them if they are cheap because I know I can't get much for them. I use them for new or near new locks I have, that are lacking a key. They add to the value of the lock. I'm not trying to pee on anyone's parade here...….. just my thoughts from my experience here on The Barn |
Re: Hurd key blanks When you decide on a value I'd take 1 if you're looking to sell them.
I only have 1 original, and I guard it with my life right now! |
Re: Hurd key blanks Are they round, football shaped or cloverleaf?

Re: Hurd key blanks 1 Attachment(s)
Here are profiles of the most common Ford Hurd keys. Which ones do you have. The key on the left is Hurd but not Ford. The shaft is reverse that of the Fords.

Let's hope they kept you 'positive ground'.... |
Re: Hurd key blanks Don, My Hurd catalog #51 shows the 9026 replaces the 9020. Altho they seem to have a little different profile in your illustration. My catalog doesn't show a 9020 illustration. Do you have any insight on this?
Glad you 're back and on the mend. I had that surgery in 2005. It takes awhile to build up a head of steam again. |
Re: Hurd key blanks Gary, The 9026 profile came out for Ford ign/door keys in 1939. It continued in use thru 1948. Since the grooving profile/shape is the same for 9020 and 9026, the 9026 blank replaced the 9020 sometime after 1939. The 9020 shape was used by Hurd/Ford from 1932 thru 1938 for ign/door keys. As a side note.......the 9018 shape was used for the trunk and accessories from 1932 thru 1938. The 9025 blank replaced it for the 1939 thru 1948 model years.
Since the grooving profiles are the same for 9020, 9018, 9025 and 9026, the blanks were often used indiscriminately in later years 1950's, 60's, etc |
