Smaller wheels for transport?
 

Hi - newbie here. I am moving a '29 Tudor across the country and would like to use my brother's enclosed trailer. The opening to the trailer is 69" and the car is 72", so we were thinking of putting smaller wheels to lower the rear to get it in. I believe the pattern is 5 on 5.5. Has anyone done this? I am thinking about finding some old wheels at a junkyard with the pattern, just to get it in and out of the trailer. Any experience with this that you'd like to share would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Fordbarn!!

Just look for any older ½-ton Ford Truck wheels. The pattern is 5 on 5½. Let most of the air out of those tires and you should be good to load.

Let most of the air out of the rear tires and have a couple Husky friends sit on the bumper till you clear the doorway. Most tudors the height is in the rear. Make sure

she's lashed down well. Have a good trip.

Back in "the day", I let the air out of the rear tires on my AA 280A in order to get it in my Dad's garage. He was rather pissed since we only had a hand pump to re-inflate them.

If you are picking the car up in Denver, call Bert's and see if he has a pair of crappy wheels he will sell cheap. Put them on with no tires, problem solved. It is worth the trip just to meet the guys at Bert's.

Smaller wheels/no tires never tried that but.....
Any chance the rear fenders would drag???

Really appreciate all the input! It went well thanks to your input! 15” truck rims completely deflated in the rear and slightly in the front did the trick. The beauty is safely home in MN. Thanks again!!
