1929 Emergency brake rods

I have adjusted the service brake rods on my 1929 Roadster Pickup to 51-7/16" to 51-1/2" as specified in Leslie's Model A Mech's Handbook :) and have checked all of my other Model A books and can't find what to do with the emergency brake rods. I searched the forums, if it's there, I can't find it.

Do they get adjusted to a certain length? What is the proper way to install them. Help, please.

They can only go on one way unless you have the wrong clevis installed. The end at the cross shaft has a bigger hole to fit the cross shaft.

Put the lock nut on then screw the clevis on till the rod just sticks out the end making both the same length, install without cotter pins. With the car on jack stands check for operation. Parking brakes should lock up at about 3 to 4 clicks. If the brakes don't lock up shorten each rod 1 or 2 turns of the clevis and check repeat as needed. If one side locks up but the other does not shorten the side that does not some and check again. In between checking release the parking brake. You don't have to take the rods all the way off, just the cross shaft end. Once you get them set tighten the lock nuts and install the cotter pins.
If the parking brakes are dragging or tight when you start then unscrew the clevis some.

Thanks,

that's what I needed to know. "Make them fit and try them out"
