Preferred parts vendors

I will be starting to purchase parts for my new 29 CC Pickup. Who are your preferred vendors?? Has anyone used Bert’s Model A located in Colorado? I’ll be starting with the basics, carb kit, gaskets and seals, some wiring, etc…

Re: Preferred parts vendors

Bert’s would be your best choice, for original parts also. Next Bratton’s and Snyder’s

My first tier: Berts and Snyders
Second tier: Bratton's and Mike's AFordable

Mostly based upon shipping cost/time to the left coast. Prices are comparable but do your homework for specific items. Now that Mac's/Ecklers is gone, I can state that service from all the vendors I've used is outstanding.

Bert's, Bert's, and Bert's...

They carry only the best reproduction parts available. They have a huge inventory of original parts. Bert's also has a back shop that can do everything from rebuilding a brake backing plate to building an engine..

Bert's has been my "go to" Model A supplier for over 20 years...

Being as they all have the same parts I order from the one closest to me to save shipping cost. I call Sammy at Arizona Model A.

Re: Preferred parts vendors

You mentioned carb kit, among other things. Get the carb rebuild kit that has FLOW TESTED jets. Flow tested jets will make your engine very happy. Brattons has carried flow tested rebuild kits in the past, but I don't know about the others. Whomever you order from ask them if their carb jets are flow tested. Jets in the old rebuild kits were too large, and made the engine run too rich.

Re: Preferred parts vendors

I've used Bert's, Brattons and Snyders. I like how some tell you if it's a good repro or not. Also you'll run into who has what you need in stock? There are some parts that are different 28-29 or 30-31 - ran into that on the headlight lens retaining springs. Description said 28-31 so I bought them - wire dia is too big to snap into a 29 trim ring. Brattons had the correct 28-29 ones. Also take a look at wiring harnesses some use the wrong bullet ends on the headlight wires. There are also different prices for the same part from different places so shop around.

I'm learning to do my homework first to make sure a part is correctly made and is for my '29.

I use Renners Corners for carb parts. They are in Michigan.

Is Mac's really gone? I ordered from them in Dec. and I've been getting emails from them as recent as a few days ago.
I agree with the other posts...Bert's is great, Snyder's also. I like CW Moss but they charge me tax, so I go with Bert's lately. Every little bit counts. I only had a bad experience with a vendor once, I won't mention names but they mixed up a part number and sent me the wrong part. Then they charged my card again to ship me the right part. They were moving at the time, so I guess things were hectic.

Goggle Renner's Corner and look at their parts. They sell flow tested jets. They also have very informative pages, particularly on carbs. Otherwise I go with Bert's and Snyder's, both are excellent.

Re: Preferred parts vendors

I placed an order with Bert’s today. I forgot they are closed on Mondays, so nothing will happen until Tuesday. Something to remember if you need parts quickly.

Update: Even though they are closed, they just contacted me about my order. On a Sunday! That’s great service!

Agreed on the three mentioned. Also Tam’s in the east

Re: Preferred parts vendors

They are not always the same parts. Besides, service after the sale. Snyders has good service. Berts has that same reputation, although I have never ordered from them.

So does Snyder's and don't be surprised if the others don't start charging tax to out of state customers.

The most valuable "A" parts supplier is the one you can visit nearby your residence.

Mac's and the complete Ecklers line was bought out by a company called Turn 5. They sell aftermarket items mostly for off road, suspension parts, etc.

For whatever reason, Ecklers has been going downhill since the pandemic. I worked the chat line or them and they had horrible customer service during the pandemic. When the government started throwing money at people, their sales went through the roof. Unfortunately, they had supply issues and lacked the people to answer the customer service lines.

The Turn 5 may be able to turn it around, but they currently seem to lack the knowledge of vintage vehicles. Time will tell if they figure it out.

I frequent Snyders, Model A Medic, Brattons, Berts, Mikes. Pretty much find who has what I need. Ideally you would buy from who is close to your location to save on shipping.

How come no one mentions CW Moss? Super nice people, always take the time to understand my needs or project before selling me parts, and they ship 2-3x faster than other retailers. Bonus: I find their pricing very good as well.

Re: Preferred parts vendors

I choose a vendor based on 1. Quality of service 2. Fast turnaround of filling the order, 3. Least amount of delivery time to Idaho 4. Price. Initially I used vendors near the east coast and it always took 7-10 days to get my parts. For many years I have been using Steve at Berts Model A Store in Colorado. He has excelled at beating the competition and he also has a lot of used parts. His delivery time from the call to delivery to me in about 3-4 days. I don’t think anybody else beats this. If this changes I would hate to see this happen.
