Replacing Roadster Door Lower Seal

The old seals at the bottom of the ‘31 roadster doors are petrified and remnants of the original seal are still in what appears to be a shallow metal channel. Is there a better way to remove the old seal than using a small hammer and sharp screwdriver ??

Thanks - Jim

The hammer/screwdriver is about what I’ve done
Heat gun could get paint and upholstery assuming it matters

Yup, drive it out. Hindsight, maybe a Dremel ? When I replaced the rubber (30 Rdstr) the reproduction rubber did not slide into the track. Maybe from being hit or difference in materials? Since I only had one choice in material I made a tool the shape of the rubber to tap along the track to reshape the metal. New rubber slid right in.

I chipped the old seal out of the driver’s door this afternoon and cleaned the channel up. I’m ready to attempt to install the new seal in a few minutes.

The new seal slid in the channel pretty easily. However, the passenger door does not have an old seal or channel - no evidence a channel was ever present.

Was a lower seal an option, or maybe the doors on my ‘31 roadster are from different years ???

Any doors that I have seen for my 31 Roadster had the channel or at least the remains of it. I had to rebuild the lower doors for my car and got new channels and seals from Brookville. Original seals may not fit repro channels so best to get them both in one place.

Thanks - I’ll check with Brookville.
